The two modes for parallel propagation are n2 = R and n2 = L. These are:

n^{2}=1-\sum_{s}\frac{\omega_{ps}^{2}}{\Omega_{s}\left(\omega+\Omega_{s}\right)}

n^{2}=1-\sum_{s}\frac{\omega_{ps}^{2}}{\Omega_{s}\left(\omega-\Omega_{s}\right)}

The R term will be n2 = 1 + γ at ω = 0, it will go to \infty at ω / ΩH = μ, then continue from -\infty to 1 as \omega\rightarrow\infty.

The L term will be n2 = 1 + γ at ω = 0, go to \infty at ω / ΩH = 1 / 16 (Oxygen), continue from -\infty to \infty at ω / ΩH = 1 / 4 (Helium), and continue from -\infty to \infty at ω / ΩH = 1 (Hydrogen). It will then continue from -\infty to 1 as \omega\rightarrow\infty.
